The New 2011 BMW M5 Spy Photos

Here you can see the last spy shots the new BMW M5, captured while testing the model in Shweden. As it has been noted by president BMW Norbert Reithofer, the concern should get also under influence of the ecological trends covering the automobile industry. In this connection the car will be equipped with a 4,4 litre twin-turbo V8 connected to a dual-clutch gearbox instead of a naturally aspirated V-10 to improve fuel-efficiency and reduce emissions.

The engine was earlier seen in the BMW X5 M and X6 M SUVs. In this cars the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V-8 M engine kicks out 555 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque - enough to send the big SUVs from 0-60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. This should be more than enough output for the smaller and lighter M5 sedan. As for transmissions of the new M5, it will probably be a dual-clutch setup, and a proper manual transmission will find its place. The V8 means the M5 will require additional cooling capacity for the intercooler as well as a means of extracting hot air created by the turbochargers.

BMW is also told to be working on more lightweight materials for the M5 to make it even more agile. The Performance of the model will be improved. By using carbon-fiber and aluminium. The car’s construction will be a hybrid of an aluminium spaceframe for the front section, and a traditional steel monocoque for the passenger compartment and rear. This will ensure a favorable front-to-rear weight distribution and improved handling. Up front will be an independent suspension with MacPherson struts, with a multi-link layout for the rear. Expect to see an unpainted carbon roof and more of the lightweight material possibly used for the boot and fender panels. The M5 will also get new, fully electric power steering, described by Biermann as a third-generation system that offers similar levels of response and feedback to today’s hydraulic set-up

M5is expected to come out later this year probably at the Paris Motor Show, or more certain in the early months of 2011, but this information is not confirmed yet.
